On February 23, a commemorative rally was held at the monument “For the sake of life on earth”, where firefighters who died in different years are buried. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the government of St. Petersburg, veterans of the fire department and current employees of the department, as well as relatives, friends and colleagues of the fallen firefighters came to pay tribute to the memory of the fallen. Colleagues of St. Petersburg firefighters from the Republic of Belarus also took part in the mourning event.

A memorial service was served for all the dead firefighters. After that, their memory was honored with a minute of silence and flowers were laid at the monument “For the sake of life on earth.”

The day before, a traditional mini-football tournament was held at the Winter Stadium in St. Petersburg in memory of the fallen firefighters. As before, it again became a living reminder of all the firefighters and rescuers who went into immortality, who gave their lives in the name of saving others. The team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus became the winner of the tournament.

For more than thirty years, February 23 has been a mournful day for all firefighters and rescuers of the city on the Neva: in the early morning of February 23, 1991, a fire broke out in the Leningrad Hotel, killing sixteen people, nine of which were firefighters.
