The most common expenditures of Russians personally on themselves are expenses on the purchase of perfumes and cosmetics (75% of respondents have them) and self-care services (71%). This is evidenced by the data of the “Barometer of Economic Behavior of Households in Russia” of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (issue 2 of December 2023, dedicated to summarizing the results of the year).

Russians spend much less on personal education: only 5% of respondents pay for their basic or additional education. Spending on food outside the home is much higher among men. They spend on it more often than women (53% vs. 48%) and more (3,700 vs. 2,800 rubles on average).

And women are more likely to spend money on clothes and shoes (65% vs. 54%), medicine (28% vs. 19%), perfumes and cosmetics (81% vs. 68%).

In spending on self-care, the gap between the sexes is not so big in the share of having expenses (73% for women and 70% for men), but the amounts are noticeably different: while the fair sex spends an average of 2023 rubles, men’s expenses are almost twice as low – 935 rubles.

The predominant part of Russians (more than 80%) pay for mobile communications and the Internet in the same amount, buy groceries and home care products.
