Kabardino-Balkar Elbrus became a record-breaker in terms of tourist growth – the resort managed by Kavkaz.RF was visited by 35% more tourists than in the same period last year. On the highest mountain in Europe in the New Year holidays rested more than 43 thousand people. At the same time, on January 2, the record of attendance was broken at the resort – 7,218 people had a rest here. On other days of the New Year vacations, Elbrus received about 6 thousand guests daily, which also exceeded the daily peak values of previous seasons.

“Arkhyz” in Karachay-Cherkessia during the New Year vacations was visited by more than 74 thousand tourists, which is 12% more compared to the last winter holidays.

“The results of the New Year vacations confirm that the resorts of the North Caucasus are becoming increasingly popular not only among winter sports enthusiasts, but also among tourists who prefer walks in the mountains. Over 100 thousand tourists visited Elbrus, Arkhyz and Veduchi alone during these holidays,” commented Sergey Nazarov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

Director General of Kavkaz.RF Andrey Yumshanov said that to ensure the safety of tourists at the resorts under the management of the Institute of Development of the North Caucasus Federal District, round-the-clock duty of all services – operation, rescuers, information technology, service – was organized.

“During the New Year vacations, the changeable weather occasionally made adjustments to the work, for example, “Elbrus” was partially closed for a couple of days due to weather conditions. Even so, we showed a steady increase in tourist traffic, and this shows that tourists are consciously choosing the North Caucasus and our resorts. During these holidays, we opened new slopes at an altitude of over three and a half thousand meters, and fans of alpine skiing and snowboards were eager to test them while the weather was favorable”, – said Andrei Yumshanov.

Two new slopes of “red” and “blue” difficulty level are located between the Mir and Krugozor cable car stations. They made it possible to increase the resort’s skiing area by 2.5 kilometers to 19.5 kilometers. This season Elbrus also plans to launch another three kilometers of slopes and two new ropeways. This is the first stage in the creation of a new skiing zone on the mountain, which is being actively built by Kavkaz.RF.

Kavkaz.RF is a unified development institute for the North Caucasus Federal District. Under the management of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the company builds and develops resorts, manages tourist and recreational SEZs, creates conditions for “open” business in the region, and creates a favorable investment climate. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak supervises the North Caucasus Federal District in the Russian Government.
