On January 19 at 12:00, as part of the International Exhibition and Forum in the Rosneft pavilion at VDNKh, a presentation of the genetic initiative “100,000 Me” will take place. The project is being implemented by the Whole Genome Sequencing Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) with the support of Rosneft.

The goal of the initiative is to read the genomes of 100 thousand Russians to improve methods for diagnosing genetically determined and socially significant diseases, as well as to develop new approaches to their therapy and medicines.

The director of the Department of Scientific and Technical Development and Innovation of Rosneft, Alexander Pashali, and the representative of the Center, Alina Demkina, will tell visitors to the pavilion about the “100,000 Me” project.

The Center for Whole Genetic Sequencing was created as part of the implementation of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies. Rosneft is a technological partner of this program. To date, the Center has already received about 34 thousand genetic samples, of which more than 25 thousand have already been processed. As a result, about 14 thousand people received their genetic portraits. This makes the Center’s database the largest in Russia. Currently, the database is being formed using genetic material donated by Rosneft volunteers.

The Center’s scientific team consists of experienced geneticists and bioinformaticians, as well as the best graduates of the master’s program “Genomics and Human Health”. This program was developed by Rosneft and Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov and launched in 2020 on the basis of the biological faculty of the university. In 2022, the first graduation of young scientists took place – highly qualified specialists in the field of high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis of its results.

From January 16 to 21, the Company’s site hosts Genetics Week, during which scientists tell exhibition guests about advanced technologies and developments in the field of the science of heredity.

Over the weekend, the pavilion will host the Open Days of Moscow State University (January 20) and MIPT (January 21). Representatives of universities will talk about master’s programs in the field of genetics prepared jointly with Rosneft. Also on January 21, geneticist Irina Zhegulina will present the book “The Genetic Lottery.” After the presentation, all listeners will be able to take part in a quiz and win a copy of the new book autographed by the author.

The international exhibition and forum “Russia” is held by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin from November 4, 2023 to April 12, 2024 on the territory of VDNKh. The Rosneft exposition is located in a pavilion built according to the author’s design project. The pavilion’s digital equipment and interactive exhibits tell visitors about the history of the oil industry and the Company, its prospects, scientific developments and social projects.

You can find out about the main events of the Genetics Week and the time of their holding on the official pages of PJSC NK Rosneft on social networks. The operating schedule of the Company’s pavilion is according to the exhibition schedule.
