On January 20 and 21, the Open Days of Moscow State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology took place in the Rosneft pavilion as part of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia”. Representatives of universities told visitors about master’s programs in genetics, created jointly with Rosneft.

Professor of the Department of Molecular Biology of Moscow State University Pyotr Kamensky presented the program “Genomics and Human Health”. He noted that this area of study is at the intersection of several sciences: biology, chemistry, mathematics and computer science, which requires comprehensive training of applicants and the development of new teaching methods. A significant part of the classes takes place at the Center for Whole Genome Sequencing (hereinafter referred to as the Center), where, after completing a master’s degree, young specialists often find work.

The center was created within the framework of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies, the main technological partner of which is Rosneft. With the support of the Company, the Center is implementing the “100,000 Me” genetic initiative, the goal of which is to read the genomes of 100 thousand Russians to improve diagnostic methods for genetically determined and socially significant diseases, as well as to develop new approaches to their therapy and medicines.

The presentation of the MIPT program “Algorithmic Biology” was given by Denis Kuzmin, director of the Physics and Technology School of Biological and Medical Physics. He said that the main prerequisite for the creation of the program was the urgent need for bioinformatics, and highly qualified specialists, such as the world-famous molecular biologist Konstantin Severinov, took part in its development. Representatives of the institute also gave educational lectures at the Rosneft pavilion.

In addition, on January 21, the exhibition featured a presentation of the book “Genetic Lottery,” written by geneticist Irina Zhegulina. She spoke about the importance of genetic screening before pregnancy and how to reduce the risks of hereditary diseases in children.

From January 16 to 21, the Company’s pavilion at VDNKh hosted Genetics Week, during which Konstantin Severinov’s lecture “The Importance of Genetic Research for the Future of Humanity,” a presentation of the genetic initiative “100,000 Me,” presentations by genetic scientists, and thematic quizzes with prizes took place. and screenings of educational videos.

The international exhibition and forum “Russia” is held by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin from November 4, 2023 to April 12, 2024 on the territory of VDNKh. The Rosneft exposition is located in a pavilion built according to the author’s design project. The pavilion’s digital equipment and interactive exhibits tell visitors about the history of the oil industry and the Company, its prospects, scientific developments and social projects.

You can find out about the main events in the Company’s pavilion and the time of their holding on the official pages of Rosneft on social networks. The operating schedule of the Company’s pavilion is according to the exhibition schedule.
