On January 20, the annual ceremonial event dedicated to the opening of the youth patriotic action “Nevsky Landing” was held in the Technopolis Polytech research building. In a week, student teams from St. Petersburg will go to remote areas of the Leningrad region. They will help veterans, work in schools and perform at concerts.

Roman Volkovsky, Acting Committee for Youth Policy and Cooperation with Public Organizations of St. Petersburg, Maxim Pasholikov, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Communication Technologies of SPbPU, and Konstantin Pirzhanov, Head of the action in St. Petersburg, took part in the rally.

On behalf of the Government of St. Petersburg, Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Cooperation with Public Organizations Bogdan Georgievich Zastavnyy, I am pleased to welcome you to the tenth opening of the Nevsky Descent. It is nice to see that the action is gaining momentum, and every year more and more young people join this event, – Roman Volkovsky emphasized and handed vouchers to the squad leaders.

Other guests gave their farewell speeches, and the lineup continued with rousing concert numbers.

“Nevsky Landing Troop is a regional stage of the all-Russian patriotic action “Snow Landing Troop”. Its goal is to develop volunteerism in the youth environment, career guidance of young people, creation of conditions for realization of students’ potential in the socio-economic sphere, patriotic education, public awareness activities and formation of healthy lifestyle values.

Polytechnics became pioneers in this endeavor: the first “Nevsky Descent” unit appeared in 2015 at SPbPU and was called “Russian Knight”. Since then, the number of those wishing to join the action has increased. This time 27 teams from St. Petersburg universities will have to work during the winter vacations in sparsely populated areas of the Leningrad and Pskov regions, as well as the Republic of Karelia.

More than a hundred polytechnicians from the SPbPU squads “Russian Knight”, “Evpatiy Kolovrat”, “Ilya Muromets”, “Peter the Great” and “Prince Gagarin” will clear snow on the streets, chop wood and help with schoolchildren. Fascinating master classes, educational activities, lessons on patriotism and a healthy lifestyle have been prepared for students of different ages. The highlight of the trip will be concerts for everyone, preparation for which took two months.
