In 2023, representatives of the capital’s tourism industry visited 10 countries on business missions, conducted study tours of Moscow for four foreign delegations and took part in 15 international industry exhibitions. The result of active interaction with colleagues from other countries was the conclusion of about 2.5 thousand international contracts – three times more than a year earlier.

“As part of business missions, Moscow’s tourism potential was presented in 14 cities around the world. These include the Chinese Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the Indian Mumbai and Kolkata, and the Malaysian Kuala Lumpur. For the first time, industry companies in the city entered the markets of Bahrain, Qatar and Iran,” said

Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

For example, during a visit to Jakarta (Indonesia), Russian and local tour operators signed a cooperation agreement. The first group tours under the agreement will be organized in February.

In total, in 2023, nine thousand business negotiations were held with the participation of representatives of hotels, tour operators, agencies and relevant departments. The number of meetings has increased by 50 percent compared to 2022.

“When preparing the presentations, the characteristics of each region and the portrait of a local tourist were taken into account. For example, colleagues from Indonesia and Malaysia were introduced to the New Year celebration program in Moscow. In the Middle East, the emphasis was particularly on high-end hotels and the diversity of the capital’s designer clothing brands. Issues related to air travel and visa policy were discussed separately,” the deputy mayor clarified.

Thanks to business missions, new international projects also appeared. In the spring, the Russian capital and the Indian Association of MICE Agencies (NIMA) signed a memorandum of understanding, within the framework of which a training program for Moscow ambassadors in India was announced. The first 50 participants have already completed the training.

Foreign partners themselves came to the Russian capital on study visits. Guests from China, the United Arab Emirates, India and Saudi Arabia got acquainted with the infrastructure and sights of Moscow.

They were also presented with projects dedicated to interregional travel in Russia. Among them is the joint project “Russian Holidays” with Tyumen. From the capital of Russia to the capital of Siberia,” routes from Moscow to Kazan, St. Petersburg and other cities.

It is expected that thanks to the work done in 2023, the external tourist flow will increase significantly.
