Elena Grigorievna recalled that the plan of events as part of the celebration of the University’s anniversary was approved at a meeting of the organizing committee to celebrate the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University, which was chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Nikolaevich Chernyshenko. Among such events are appropriation small planet named after St. Petersburg State University, issue of bank cards with special design,creation of postage stampsdedicated to the history of the first university in Russia, aircraft branding Rossiya Airlines and much more.

By decision of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov, 2024 in the Northern capital announced year of St. Petersburg University. On the day of the 300th anniversary of the University, torches will be lit on the Rostral Columns. The Palace Bridge will be decorated with the flags of the University, and public transport will be decorated with its symbols; buildings of St. Petersburg State University will appear on new tourist maps of the city; thematic and historical materials will be placed near them. In May 2024, the University will take part in the celebration of City Day, and the famous alumni holiday “Scarlet Sails” will be dedicated to the anniversaries of St. Petersburg State University and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Elena Grigorievna Chernova spoke in detail about the main events of the holidays on February 8 and 9, and invited honorary professors to a gala meeting at the Mariinsky Theater dedicated to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University.

At the meeting of the board, according to tradition, the rector of St. Petersburg State University, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Mikhailovich Kropachev spoke. He answered questions from the meeting participants (about the elections of the President of Russia, about the two-level education system and a possible return to a specialty, about the defense of academic degrees of candidate and doctor of sciences in the dissertation councils of St. Petersburg State University, about the participation of foreign scientists in the work of university dissertation councils, about changes in the rules of defense, about translation of dissertations into English and others). The rector emphasized that the rules in force at St. Petersburg State University are adopted after a public discussion of university students’ proposals and can be changed if necessary. Many initiatives of honorary professors are implemented as part of the University’s development strategy.

The Board reviewed the candidates submitted by the academic councils of institutes and faculties for the award of the title “Honorary Professor of St. Petersburg State University.” By open voting, members of the board of honorary professors recommended six candidates to the Academic Council of St. Petersburg State University for awarding this honorary title.

The Chairman of the Board, Professor Gennady Grigorievich Bogomazov, appealed to his colleagues to pay special attention to educational work with students in the course of everyday communication with them and, as far as possible, during educational activities in order to help them understand the complex issues of modern international relations.
