On the world-class campus of NSU, which is being built as part of national project “Science and Universities”, completed the installation of the planetarium dome. The planetarium is located in the building of the leisure center SUSC NSU (Physics and Mathematics School), designed for 35 seats. This will be one of the most modern planetariums beyond the Urals, which schoolchildren from all over the region will be able to visit.

The planetarium has a reinforced concrete dome with a diameter of 9 meters, which houses a dome projection screen with an eight-channel video server system for playing full-dome encrypted content, which provides a 90×360 degree projection to reproduce images of the Milky Way and other galaxies. Along with the equipment, the planetarium will be equipped with a set of films.

As noted by Deputy Governor of the NSO Irina Manuilova, the NSU world-class campus project is part of the federal project “Creating a network of modern campuses”, which is being implemented in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”. The implementation of the project will have a positive impact on changing the quality of life of residents of Academy Town and the region as a whole, including through the opening of unique educational and infrastructure facilities on campus.

— The opening of another large planetarium in the region as an educational institution will play a significant role in the scientific and educational activities of the Novosibirsk region. This opens up additional educational and project opportunities for students of all ages. Here you can learn about the current state of astronomy, see space objects in real time, and gain access to software and equipment for research in the field of astronomy. The NSU campus planetarium will become a new center of attraction for scientific thought, collaboration between scientific institutions and laboratories of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center. This project will contribute to the development of scientific thinking and attract attention and interest in science among schoolchildren, students and the public in general, as well as stimulate the development of scientific and technical potential in the region in the field of space research,” commented the vice-governor.

The leisure center of the Scientific Research Center of NSU belongs to the objects of the first stage of construction of the new campus of NSU, along with an academic building and a complex of two student dormitories; the construction readiness of these objects is 70-75%. In addition to the planetarium, the leisure center includes a modern modular auditorium, a library complex, gyms, an art classroom and a museum. Construction of the first stage of construction is planned to be completed in the summer of 2024.

Work also continues at the construction sites of the second stage, which include the building of continuous classrooms, the educational and scientific center of the Institute of Medicine and Psychology and the research center of NSU. The highest level of construction readiness is for the building of continuous classrooms – 27.5%, for the other two objects – 10 and 7.4%, respectively. Completion of the first stage of construction is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.
