On February 2, in the Technopolis Polytech research building, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky with representatives of the SPbPU administration, including vice-rectors, heads of institutes and departments. The event participants discussed current issues in the development of higher education.

Konstantin Ilyich is our guest of honor. I have invited him to speak to you to discuss the important challenges facing the higher education community moving forward. What we need to pay special attention to now. We simply need wishes, recommendations, and advice,” the rector of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Rudskoy opened the meeting.

Thanks a lot for the invitation. We really are constantly in touch with Andrei Ivanovich. I would like to congratulate Polytechnic University on its anniversary a little in advance and express respect and gratitude to the staff and management of the university. This is the largest university in St. Petersburg and one of the leading in Russia. We recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the siege. And from me, a historian, a special thank you for preserving this memory,” said Konstantin Mogilevsky.

Konstantin Ilyich made a report “Science and higher education in Russia: yesterday, today, tomorrow.” He presented a brief analysis of the changes that have taken place in the education of our country over the past 20 years. He dwelled in detail on the path of development of the national higher education system, the new mechanism for the formation of the total volume of budget places and their distribution between universities, and spoke about the flagship projects in which the Polytechnic University is a participant.

Ten years ago, the term “engineering special forces” was introduced at the Polytechnic University. This was, on the one hand, a reflection of the processes that were beginning in society, and on the other hand, it spurred the return of the prestige of engineering education. Now we see the result of a lot of work to restore respect for the engineering profession and the understanding that without it there will be no country,” emphasized Konstantin Ilyich.

The Deputy Minister paid much attention to changes in scientific activity, the development of the educational process, as well as humanitarian knowledge and historical education in universities. Speaking about education in new regions of Russia, Konstantin Ilyich highly appreciated the outstanding work of the Polytechnic University in restoring universities located in new regions. He also noted the cooperation of the Polytechnic University with the Russian-Armenian University. In conclusion, Konstantin Mogilevsky spoke about upcoming projects and their prospects.

The meeting participants noted that direct communication and open dialogue between the ministry and the university are very important.
