Rosneft’s Samara refineries once again became winners of the All-Russian Environmental Contest “Leader of Russia’s Environmental Protection Activities”. The Kuibyshev, Syzran and Novokuibyshevsk refineries received the highest awards.

Preserving the environment for future generations is an integral part of Rosneft’s corporate culture. The activities of all the Company’s enterprises are aimed at achieving leadership positions in minimizing environmental impact and environmental friendliness of production.

Syzran Refinery won the Best Environmental Policy in the Refining Industry nomination. In 2023, the refinery’s environmental laboratory successfully passed the competence confirmation procedure. An expert inspection showed that the laboratory fully complies with the interstate GOST standard “General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories” and accreditation criteria. The plant successfully implements environmental projects to improve the reliability of pipelines, efficient water management, land reclamation, and replenishment of bioresources in the region where it operates.

The air, water and soil conditions at the enterprise are monitored on a round-the-clock basis by three modern stationary and one mobile environmental checkpoints, as well as a mobile laboratory.

Employees of the Syzran Refinery’s sanitary laboratory performed about 300 thousand different analyses in 2023, including water, air, soil and ground.

Kuibyshev Refinery won in the category “For Environmental Responsibility”. The refinery is implementing a large-scale investment program to modernize its production facilities. Thanks to the conversion of units to natural gas, launch of new industrial facilities, and environmental protection measures, the atmospheric load has decreased 2.5 times over the last few years. Water withdrawal from natural sources has been reduced by 20%. The volume of wastewater has decreased by 10%. As a result of modernization of recycled water supply units, reconstruction of water intake and water pipelines, the share of recycled water in the water supply of the enterprise exceeded 91%. The company’s total investment in environmental protection over the last six years exceeded RUB 12 billion.

The Novokuibyshevsk Refinery is actively implementing a comprehensive environmental program. Over the past five years, the refinery has reduced its environmental load by 19% and the amount of waste generated by 58%. Recycled water utilization at the refinery has increased to 96%. The refinery has built a multi-level system of real-time environmental control, which allows the enterprise to have up-to-date information on the state of the environment in the zone of influence and promptly take measures to prevent possible negative impact.

All Rosneft enterprises are actively implementing environmental protection technologies and large-scale environmental initiatives. Employees of the Company’s subsidiaries are active participants of the all-Russian environmental events “Cedars of Russia”, “Water of Russia”, “Green Spring”, and “Earth Hour”. In 2023, volunteers from Kuibyshev, Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries planted 14,000 seedlings of oaks, pines, cedars and birches in parks and public gardens and forestry organizations in the Samara region. According to the results of 2023, 225 thousand fry of valuable fish species – carp, sterlet, capercaillie, pikeperch – were released into the Volga water area.

Social and educational projects are implemented at the plants to educate the younger generation to take care of nature. Excursions, creative contests and environmental actions are organized.
