On February 8, 2024, a postal block dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences went into circulation. The ceremony of its solemn cancellation took place in the Mendeleev Hall St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The first impression of the stamp on the stamp was put by the Chief Scientific Secretary of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vitaly Sergeev, and the Director of the North-West macroregion of Russian Post, Alexander Vakulenko.

The stamp, issued in a circulation of 17,000 copies and with a face value of 150 rubles, depicts a portrait of Peter I and the building of the Kunstkamera, and in the margins of the postal block there are pages of the draft regulations on the establishment of the Academy of Sciences and Arts. The author of the stamp sketch is artist-designer V. Khablovsky.

“We are grateful to the Russian Post for such a bright and symbolic gift for the anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences,” Vitaly Sergeev said during the ceremony. — For 300 years, Russian scientists have made a colossal contribution to the world in which we live. The role of the Academy of Sciences in technological progress and in the formation of a socio-cultural society is undoubtedly great. Without a doubt, we will continue this path with honor, and a great future awaits Russian science.”

“The most significant events in the history of our country and city are reflected in the products that Russian Post traditionally produces for significant dates,” emphasized Alexander Vakulenko. — Today, the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences has another symbol – a unique postage stamp. I am sure that the envelopes, decorated with the anniversary stamp and canceled with a special stamp, will replenish the collections of philatelists and become a memorable gift for residents and guests of the Northern capital.”

To cancel the postal block, a special first-day stamp was made, with the date “February 8, 2024” indicated on it. During this day, the stamp will be located at the flagship branch of the Russian Post at 70 Nevsky Prospekt. There you can purchase a stamp and put an imprint on it. A stamp canceled on the day of issue is of particular collector’s value for philatelists.
