From February 5 to 8, NSU hosted an interuniversity seminar on artificial intelligence, NSU Online Artificial Intelligence Course. It was attended by 18 students from Xinjiang University from the city of Urumqi.

On behalf of NSU, the opening and closing ceremonies of the seminar were attended by the head of the NSU Education Export Department Evgeniy Sagaidak, specialist of the International Recruiting Department Adelina Kazulina and Associate Professor of the Department of Intelligent Systems of Thermophysics Institute of Intelligent Robotics NSU Alexander Nazarov. From the Chinese side, Zhu Xinwu, head of the international department of Xinjiang University, and Qian Yurong, director of the Software Institute, took part.

The seminar was hosted by Rodion Shkokov and Roman Derunets, specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and deep machine learning, who acquired knowledge and skills within the walls of NSU.

At the opening of the inter-university seminar, in his welcoming speech, the scientific director of the NSU educational direction “Mechatronics and Robotics”, Doctor of Technical Sciences Alexander Nazarov briefly spoke about the history of the development of artificial intelligence in the world. He emphasized the relevance of this separate area of computer science for medical diagnostics, e-commerce, robot control, Earth remote sensing and many other areas.

For three days, students at Xinjiang University intensively immersed themselves in the topic of artificial intelligence. Two lectures were held daily, during which the topic of deep machine learning and neural networks was presented in a very detailed, understandable and interesting manner in a short period of time.

Song Jianhui, a student at the Russian language special group at Xinjiang University, shares his impressions:

— First of all, I would like to thank the teachers of Novosibirsk State University for the excellent lectures they gave us. The content was clear and vivid. The teachers, in a lively language, logically and in detail explained the basic principles of deep machine learning, methods for training models, and talked about the areas of application of neural networks. I was especially drawn to the experts’ interpretation of mathematical formulas, which allowed me to better understand the essence of deep learning. At the same time, I was inspired by the teachers’ views on the future of artificial intelligence, which made me even more determined to study this field thoroughly. I would also like to thank the university for giving us the opportunity to interact with experts and scientists face to face. This interactive learning approach allowed me to better understand the practical applications of deep learning and create a clearer plan for future research.
