On February 9, at the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, a solemn ceremony was held to present diplomas to graduates of the third launch of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) professional retraining program “Leaders of Digital Transformation.”

The program is being implemented on the material, technical and scientific-methodological basis of the Higher School of Technological Entrepreneurship of the Advanced Engineering School of SPbPU “Digital Engineering” and the NTI Center of SPbPU “New Manufacturing Technologies” under the organizational and scientific-methodological leadership of Professor VShTP PISH SPbPU, Doctor of Technical Sciences. The training was attended by middle and senior managers with more than 5 years of management experience. In addition to the polytechnicians, the audience included representatives of the HATTATSU GROUP, the Power Machines MSCH, the Nizhny Novgorod 70th Anniversary of Victory Plant, Technopark of St. Petersburg, the Central Research Institute of RTK, St. Petersburg State Medical University and other enterprises and organizations from different regions of the country.

The solemn event was opened by Alexey Borovkov, Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation, Head of the SPbPU Digital Engineering School. He congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and wished them success in applying the acquired knowledge and bright professional victories.

I am very pleased to congratulate the graduates of the Digital Transformation Leaders program – managers who are now more deeply immersed in digital transformation processes in enterprises. This is a difficult but necessary task for high-tech companies that strive to become leaders in their industries. Digital transformation involves qualitative changes in the company’s business processes and business model as a result of the introduction of advanced digital and production technologies. As a result, the processes of design, production, and operation of products become more efficient: costs are optimized, productivity increases, and rapid adaptation to changing environmental conditions occurs. Ultimately, this determines the increase in the company’s competitiveness and opens up new development paths,” noted Alexey Ivanovich.

The EMBA professional retraining program consisted of six main modules: four educational, one practical and final certification with pre-defense and defense of final qualifying work. Classes were held in a full-time format with complete immersion in the educational process. During breaks between modules, students continued to interact remotely, using the capabilities of the Polytechnic’s specialized information and educational environment. The program combined various educational formats: lectures, discussions, foresight sessions, trainings, business simulations, practices, as well as individual work with teachers and completing test assignments. The main topics are the specifics of leadership and the formation of modern management thinking in the context of digital transformation, the ideology of digital transformation in general, the practical application of end-to-end information technologies, the phased development of projects with immersion in the digital environment.

The program is constructed with high quality in terms of process organization and topic selection. I have improved my project management skills. I really liked the leadership training and team management skills. There were classes that directly related to the topic of digital transformation. We were told what stages digital transformation has, how to understand that an enterprise is ready for it, when this process should be launched and when not. There were also blocks that included mini-practices at enterprises that had already gone through several stages of digital transformation. Of course, learning is networking. We met with senior managers and plan to continue interaction. I will recommend the program to all my colleagues and managers, because it really improves management skills and expands competencies,” Alexey Chernetsov, head of the department of multimedia systems and import substitution at SPbPU, shared his impressions.

Participants in the EMBA “Leaders of Digital Transformation” program developed their own projects related to the digital transformation of the enterprise. The defense took place in the final. The commission members highly appreciated the level of training of the graduates, the originality, practicality and relevance of the proposed ideas.

The team, which included the executive director of the association “Cluster of Socio-Technological Development of Territories of the Kaluga Region” Maxim Ledkov, the head of the process automation department of the BorisHof Holding information systems department Ruslan Talipov and the head of the special equipment department of the Central Research Institute of RTK Oleg Shmakov, developed a project for implementation on their enterprises with new digital transformation technologies through automation of business processes using software robots and artificial intelligence technologies.

Communicating with municipalities, we realized that this task is very urgent. By introducing certain technologies and changing the management model, we are reducing the time required for high-quality positive responses to the population across the territory by seven times. We achieved this indicator theoretically, working on a project during the training process. Now we move on to the actual implementation of research and development. We will expect results, but the potential of these processes is very high,” said Maxim Ledkov.

I remember the Executive MBA program for the bright diversity of experience of the teaching staff and a well-selected group of participants, including business owners and hired managers from different regions of our country. The audience, which included Polytechnic ambassadors, showed great interest and actively participated in the discussions, which created a valuable exchange of knowledge and allowed us to look at business from a different perspective. I learned about new technologies and approaches to improve business processes using digital tools. This knowledge was useful when preparing my final project, and also coincided with the transition to a new leadership position in my company. I believe that this program deserves wider dissemination with the aim of possibly joining new SPbPU ambassadors and all those who want to develop professional skills and do not lose touch with their beloved Polytechnic University,” concluded Ruslan Talipov.

Based on the results of training and defense of projects, students received an EMBA diploma of the established form, which confirms the competencies necessary for professional activities in the field of “Management”, with the qualification “Master of Business Administration (Executive)”.
