On the Soloviev LIVE and Vesti FM TV channels there was a discussion on the topic: “Are there risks in migration…?”, in which a professor of the Department of Public Administration and Political Technologies of the State University of Management, a member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on Interethnic Relations and the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia took part. Vladimir Volokh.

In his comments, the professor noted that “every year about 2 million foreign citizens come to the Russian Federation and work legally. However, if you look at the statistics today, how many workers we lack, it is more than 4 and a half million…”

The expert noted that one of the main features of the demographic situation in modern Russia is the significant scale of population decline, primarily in labor resources. Therefore, in the coming years, we will have to attract a certain number of in-demand labor migrants for temporary work in Russia.

Vladimir Volokh emphasized that migrants account for a relatively small number of crimes and in 2023 there will be a reduction of 3 percent. In the country as a whole, over the past 15 years, foreign citizens and stateless persons have committed up to 2 percent of crimes and the total number of crimes committed in Russia. “We should note the great work that has been done by law enforcement agencies,” the expert concluded.

According to the professor, a significant role in preventing crimes by migrants and in matters of their adaptation is played not only by government authorities, but also by various institutions of civil society, including national-cultural autonomies and diasporas.
