From March 4 to 7, the finals of the National Technology Olympiad in the “Digital Engineering in Construction” profile were held at the Polytechnic University. The Institute of Civil Engineering and the Center for Work with Applicants of SPbPU acted as the organizer of the profile together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Higher School of Economics, the Circle Movement of the National Technological Initiative (NTI), the presidential platform “Russia is a Country of Opportunities”, the Agency for Strategic initiatives and ANO “NTI Platform”. The technological partners of the profile were the companies Askon and the Samolet Group of Companies. The final competitions of the Olympiad were held simultaneously on two tracks – school and student. Participants from 10 regions of our country reached the finals.

Participants plunged into the world of the latest technologies in the field of digital construction. The real innovation was the use of advanced technologies such as simulation modeling and artificial intelligence. Participants used these advanced tools to solve complex digital design and construction problems.

The organizers of the Olympiad surprised all participants and guests with an unusual format for defending their works. They created a virtual world in the metaverse, which allowed everyone to feel like full participants in an interactive event, create their own avatar and communicate with each other in a gaming format. The results of the work done were also assessed in the virtual space. And then, in the same format, they organized a networking event, where the guys received valuable advice from experts and event organizers.

Polytechnic University is the place where the engineers of the future are born. Today, the Construction Engineering Institute of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is a leader in training specialists in the field of digital modeling of buildings and structures. And we, in turn, try to stay ahead of the future and, as the final of the NTO Olympiad showed, we succeed. The tasks that the participants performed were unique in their content. To obtain the final result, participants had to not only apply knowledge in the field of digital building modeling, but also master artificial intelligence technologies, generative design, and demonstrate programming skills. I was especially impressed by the defense of projects in the metaverse – it was exciting and modern. In addition, this is an interesting experience for all participants and experts,” commented the research supervisor of the profile, acting, on the results of the final. The closing ceremony and announcement of the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad were conducted by fourth-year students of the Civil Engineering Institute and profile curators Alina Doroshenko and Dmitry Zharkov.

The Comfortiki team won the team competition among schoolchildren: Egor Volkov (Primorsky Territory), Svetlana Lomakina (Moscow Region), Kirill Petrov (Moscow), Ksenia Podlipalina (Moscow Region).

In the individual competition, the winners were Alisa Moiseeva (St. Petersburg) and Egor Volkov (Primorsky Territory).

The winners in the individual competition were Ksenia Kotionova (Moscow), Mikhail Pavlovets (Novosibirsk), Ekaterina Sivoronova (Moscow), Makar Zykov (Novosibirsk region), Oleg Efremov (Leningrad region).

The winners of the student track were the “Raccoons” team: Elena Fedorova (SPbPU). The “Miners” team also received prizes: Igor Khramchenkov, Egor Vankov.

Tasks in the “Digital Engineering in Construction” profile include information modeling technologies, automation, the use of artificial intelligence and agent-based simulation modeling. The Olympics have become a dynamic event that promotes innovation in the industry. The participants demonstrated experience, exchanged knowledge and expanded the boundaries of what was possible, ultimately determining the future of construction with the help of technological advances,” emphasized Anna Korotkova, the leading expert-methodologist of the profile, senior lecturer at the Higher School of Industrial, Civil and Road Construction of the Civil Engineering Institute.
