Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting on preparations for the II All-Russian Alexander Nevsky Sports Games

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting on preparations for the II All-Russian Sports Games of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. It was attended by Deputy Minister of Sports Odes Baysultanov, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Murmansk and Monchegorsk Mitrofan, Executive Secretary of the Patriarchal Commission on Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Orthodox Church Dmitry Petrovsky and others representatives of the Ministry of Sports, authorities of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Russian Orthodox Church.

The meeting discussed the progress of preparations for the upcoming competitions, the forum program, as well as issues of organizing the cultural, excursion and exhibition programs of the Games.

Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized that the Games will be another confirmation that Russia is developing and supporting international competitions of various formats. According to him, the II Alexander Nevsky Games will be an excellent platform for demonstrating skill and fortitude. He also added that raising the younger generation in the spirit of our traditions and values is inextricably linked with the physical and spiritual development of a harmonious person.

Gleb Nikitin noted that the regional government has prepared regulations on the Games, plans to increase the number of participants, and there are proposals for sports.

“We will do our best to ensure that the Games are held at the highest level. To do this, we have everything necessary, and most importantly, extensive experience in holding large-scale events, including sports. Of course, the fact that the memory of the outstanding commander – the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky is especially important for us, also plays a role here, because it was on Nizhny Novgorod land, in Gorodets, that he completed his earthly journey. We consider this opportunity as another chance to remind him and strengthen spiritual values in society, especially among young people and teenagers,” he said.

The governor also said that a draft business program for the “Faith and Sport” forum had been prepared.

The Games will be held September 10–16, 2024 in Nizhny Novgorod. As part of the competition, the All-Russian Forum “Faith and Sport” will also take place, combining scientific, educational, informational and cultural events for participants and guests of the Games. The organizers of the competition are the Ministry of Sports, the Patriarchal Commission for Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Orthodox Church and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The sports part involves competitions in five sports (basketball, sambo, football, chess, table tennis) and competitions to meet the standards of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense” (GTO). The additional program of the Games includes competitions in physical football and an online chess tournament.

As a result of the discussions, a number of instructions were given. In particular, the Ministry of Sports, the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, together with interested federal executive authorities, organizations, the Patriarchal Commission for Physical Education and Sports of the Russian Orthodox Church, form an organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the event, and approve its composition.

In addition, together with interested federal executive authorities, the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region has been instructed to develop a volunteer program for the Games and the “Faith and Sport” forum, and a team support program.

The first All-Russian Sports Games of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky took place in September 2023 in Kemerovo. 560 people from 36 regions took part in them, including the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. During the competition, 22 sets of awards were played in 4 sports (football, basketball, chess, sambo) and in fulfilling GTO standards.

More than 1.2 thousand people took part in the All-Russian Forum “Faith and Sport”. The business program of the forum included 14 sections and discussion platforms of educational, cultural, scientific and educational-methodological orientation.
