On March 16, the third volleyball tournament among the leading schools of St. Petersburg in the field of physics, mathematics and engineering education took place in the large gymnasium of the sports complex on Engels Avenue. Five educational institutions took part in the tournament: Natural Science Lyceum of SPbPU, Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239, Governor’s Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 30, Engineering and Technology School No. 777 and State Budgetary Educational Institution Secondary School No. 246.

The team format was 4 boys and 2 girls, which made all participants very happy. An incredible fight unfolded in every game. After the round-robin stage matches, an exhibition meeting took place between the “Sports Projects” team and Engineering and Technology School No. 777. The head of the “Sports Projects” organization, Peter Kazansky, introduced his team on Saturday. Among them was Daniil Pakhomov, world champion in swimming, Honored Master of Sports, participant in the Olympic Games, multiple champion of Russia. In a tense match, students from school 777 won with a score of 2:1. And representatives of lyceum 239 won the tournament, beating their comrades from educational institution No. 30 in the final.

At the award ceremony, SPbPU Vice-Rector for Additional and Pre-University Education Dmitry Tikhonov noted: The best approach to developing teamwork is team sports. You can see how schoolchildren and their coaches become united and purposeful on the way to their goal. It is important for us to show children from the best schools in the city that Polytechnic not only allows them to implement scientific projects and get an excellent education, but also provides an opportunity to continue to grow in the field of sports and develop their hobbies.

No one was left without a gift; all participants received prizes and souvenirs with the symbols of the Polytechnic University. Note that the next day the coach of the team of the Natural Science Lyceum of SPbPU received many calls from different schools in the city with a request to invite them to the tournament in December this year.

It was an amazing tournament, a lot of emotions and a desire to win. As a result, we will better prepare the lyceum team and try to excel at the fourth tournament in December and win. In the near future, we will think about how to change the format and make a selection so that more schools in the city can take part in the competition,” said the director of the lyceum, Roman Baybikov.
