Over the course of its century-long history, the State University of Management has become a real home for a huge number of scientists and teachers. Families are born here and continue into dynasties of scientists.

Today we will talk about the Linnik family. Father Yuri Nikolaevich and son Vladimir Yurievich work at the State University of Management. It is interesting that both of them did not receive higher education here, but chose our university to work.

Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Economics and Management in the Fuel and Energy Complex of the State University of Management Yuri Nikolaevich Linnik graduated from the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute in 1974 with a degree in mining mechanical engineer. He spent over 20 years working at the Institute of Mining named after. A.A. Skochinsky in Lyubertsy. From a junior researcher he rose to the position of head of the department of underground mining of coal deposits. Later he became director of the Institute of Mining Engineering.

Since 2006, he has been working at the Department of Economics and Management in the fuel and energy complex of the State University of Management. Teaches the technological fundamentals of the fuel and energy complex, international fuel and energy business, the fundamentals of international trade in hydrocarbon resources and other disciplines. From 2012 to 2016, he concurrently held the position of head of the Center for Organization of Scientific Research at the State University of Management.

Over the years, he has published almost 150 publications in scientific Russian and foreign journals, textbooks and monographs, including the impressive work “Oil and Gas Complex: Production, Economics, Management.”

Professor of the Department of Economics and Management in the Fuel and Energy Complex of the State University Vladimir Yuryevich Linnik followed in his father’s footsteps and received a diploma in systems engineering at the Moscow State Mining University (now the Mining Institute NUST MISIS). For ten years he worked in commercial companies, implementing management information systems.

“At a certain point, the work I had been doing since 1999 began to seem like a craft. There were no longer any opportunities to reach new horizons, and at the same time, there was a desire to pass on the experience to the next generation. Just at this moment the crisis of 2008 occurred, and the company in which I worked at that time began to gradually lose its position. Then my father told me: “Why bother there, come to State University, here you have someone to share your experience with, and it’s stable.”

At our university, Vladimir Yuryevich, in addition to teaching statistical methods of information processing, the fundamentals of carbon processing and management disciplines in the oil and gas complex, is the head of the department of scientific events and youth scientific activities of the Directorate for the Organization of Scientific Activities of the State University of Management. In May of this year, he and his students are organizing a search trip to the Sebezh fortified area in the Pskov region. This is the first such project at the State University of Education; in the future, it is planned to create a volunteer club in historical, patriotic and environmental areas, the main activity of which will be various expedition trips. In addition, Vladimir Linnik is actively involved in the work of the recently opened Advanced Engineering School “RosGeoTech”, where he and his colleagues are developing a software package for creating a digital twin of hydrocarbon production equipment.

At the moment, more than 80 articles and scientific works by Vladimir Linnik have been published not only in the field of fuel and energy complex, but also on the issues of assessing the effectiveness of higher educational institutions. Together with his father, he worked on the monograph “Oil and Gas Complex: Production, Economics, Management.”

The Linnikov scientific dynasty does not stop there. The grandson of Yuri Nikolaevich is now studying virtual and augmented reality technologies in the 1st year of MIREA. When asked about continuing the family tradition, Vladimir Yuryevich answers: “Will he be a teacher? Who’s going to make a wish now, he’s only 18 years old, we’ll see.”
