Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the issue of rescue work at the Pioneer mine in the Amur region

Deputy Prime Minister and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the issue of rescue work at the Pioneer mine in the Amur Region.

“Rescue operations are underway. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations deployed the necessary forces and equipment there. A headquarters will be set up at the site. We agreed that twice a day we, both the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Russian Government, will receive a report on how the cleanup work is being carried out. If we contact people or if a complication arises during the work, such reports will be submitted immediately. The work is complicated by the fact that water comes in, and the result is a pulp – a mixture of water with soil particles, which must be pumped out. The issue of the need to pump out the pulp is now being addressed. In the near future, Emergencies Ministry specialists will answer the question about the need to transfer high-performance pumps from Kuzbass. There is already a preliminary agreement on this. The Ministry of Emergency Situations board for the transfer of equipment is already ready. Everything possible will be done to save people. In addition, in this situation, it is necessary to pay attention to the safety of those who carry out rescue operations, because the situation is difficult. I will also talk today with the owner, because I would like to see his participation in this, he is directly responsible for what is happening now. But the main task is to save people, and then the whole situation will be studied and investigated by both the commission and law enforcement agencies. But now, as soon as possible, it is necessary to free the mine from the rubble and make every effort to ensure that people remain alive,” said Yuri Trutnev.

Due to a rock collapse at the Pioneer mine, part of JSC Pokrovsky Mine, in the Zeya District, 13 people are under rubble – employees of a contracting organization that specializes in mining and capital mining work. Mine rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations from Neryungri and Khabarovsk are working on the spot, rescuers from the Primorsky Territory have also deployed, and a reserve of specialists from Kuzbass has been prepared. A regional emergency regime has been introduced in the Amur region.

“The situation is difficult, there is limited space, water is constantly being supplied. In order to remove soil and organize work without risk, rescuers require very serious efforts. At the same time, the group, forces and means are sufficient. The situation is controlled at the highest level. We are in touch with the Governor of Kuzbass Sergei Evgenievich Tsivilev. Kuzbass has enormous experience in eliminating such emergencies. They gave a number of suggestions on how to help the miners. Video communication specialists are in constant contact. An additional group has been prepared on behalf of the Minister of Emergency Situations of Russia; an Il-76 aircraft is in reserve in Novokuznetsk, which is ready to deliver specialized additional equipment if necessary,” reported Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov.

“Mine rescuers are working on the spot. People behind the rubble know that they are coming to help. Our rescuers, while performing their task, will try to complete it at maximum speed. The average rate of progress is approximately 100–200 m in two hours. The soil itself is liquid-like in places, and there are large stones that are quite difficult to get out of there. But work is underway, and a lot has already been done. We are ready to promptly send additional forces to quickly locate the injured miners,” said the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov.

According to the minister, 114 rescuers are working at the site, 45 units of equipment are involved. Helicopters and planes are ready to take off to deliver pumping systems. To provide psychological support, a consolidated group of psychologists consisting of 15 specialists has been formed, of which 6 psychologists are directly involved in the work from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Amur Region, 9 psychologists are on reserve (8 psychologists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and 7 psychologists from the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry).
