On March 21, the grand opening of the Youth Career Forum took place in the Technopolis Polytech research building. A stand exhibition, business activities, express interviews, master classes and useful broadcasts – such a rich program was prepared for Polytechnic students by 49 major employers. The event was organized by the SPbPU Career Development Department.

The forum was opened by the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU Lyudmila Pankova, who thanked the company representatives for their participation.

Our partners are actively involved in the educational process, some of the classes are conducted at enterprises, thanks to which employment problems are solved. On the site there are those whom we teach, those who teach, and those for whom we teach. Employers can see what students are capable of here and now, and for students this is an opportunity to find the company of their dreams,” noted Lyudmila Vladimirovna.

Project manager of Power Machines JSC Alexandra Grigorieva spoke about the long-term partnership between the company and the Polytechnic University.

The Polytechnic University has a Student Design Bureau “Power Machines”, in which students and university staff work on projects together with our specialists. This year, the educational project “SM Trajectory” was launched, within the framework of which our experts give lectures to students. Our company relies on young personnel. Students and graduates of your university always show a high level of knowledge in various fields,” emphasized Alexandra Grigorieva.

Elvira Tuktamysheva, head of the SPbPU Employment Promotion Sector, spoke in more detail about the forum program. Thus, the event was traditionally held in a mixed format: in person – an exhibition of employers and business activities, as well as an online career marathon. In addition, at the end of the day, all participants received a bingo drawing for prizes from partners.

Representatives of Russian and international companies carefully prepared to meet the students: all points were brightly decorated, interactive games were held, and prizes were given. Employers told students and graduates about vacancies, practical training places and internships in an accessible and informative manner, and answered any questions.

Among the regular participants in Polytech career events are the Gazprom Neft Scientific and Technical Center, Sberbank, VTB, Schlumberger, TGC-1, B-1 Group of Companies, Sovcombank Group, NRC Kurchatov Institute – PNPI “, etc. The Severstal company has been participating in the forum for many years. Representatives invited students to solve engineering problems so that the guys had an idea of what kind of work would await them in the company.

This time we brought sweet treats for the first time – chocolate. And since we are metallurgists, we tell everyone that chocolate is made in a blast furnace and wrapped in high-alloy steel. Gifts include flashlights that illuminate a student’s career path, card holders, and stickers. We also demonstrate samples of our products, for example, bimetal,” said Severstal University Relations Manager Ekaterina Tarasova.

RES Engineering specialists attracted the attention of students with branded donuts and assembled electric drive fittings, as well as a quiz dedicated to nuclear energy and the operation of nuclear power plants.

We treat guests to our stand with donuts, because, as you know, students are always hungry, we all remember this “pain”. I myself recently graduated from a university, by the way, the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at the Polytechnic University. Finally returned to my home university again – it’s such nostalgia! — calculation engineer Svetlana Kolesova shared her impressions.

Works closely with Polytechnic and Avtozavod St. Petersburg. Internal communications content coordinator Natalya Bannikova said that students undergo internships and get jobs. For the forum, experts prepared a stand that simulates various problems in an electrical circuit; students looked for them with interest.

Traditionally, the state corporation Rosatom was represented at several points. Employees presented their companies in detail, prepared interactive activities, online quizzes, questionnaires, and gifts for students.

The North is a harsh but attractive region. It is convenient in terms of transport: only an hour and a half by plane, it attracts with nature and climate. And employees have certain bonuses. It’s nice that the polytechnicians showed great interest in our company,” shared Anatoly Noskov, electronics engineer of the radiation safety department of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant.

But specialists from the Ural Civil Aviation Plant are confident that the most attractive direction is aviation.

Working with such technology, with the sky, is cool and interesting. We are waiting for your students to practice in Yekaterinburg. Also in April, we are holding an engineering championship, which will be of interest to students in various fields,” said Alexandra Podzorova, a recruiter.

At the career forum, the Luch design bureau was looking for architects, engineers, and designers; Geropharm offered paid internships to students in various fields, especially students from the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnologies. A few years later, company P returned to the Polytechnic forum

We really liked the results of the forum last year; we worked with many Polytechnic students. These are competent, inspired guys. We want to attract even more polytechnicians for internships, internships, and part-time jobs. We need students from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport, economists and other specialists,” said Yulia Bulgakova, head of the personnel attraction department.

New partners were also introduced. For example, the Russian Mechanics company from Rybinsk, which develops, produces, and sells snowmobiles and ATVs, is a leader in the Russian market. RM brought a Frontier 1000 snowmobile and an RM 800 T quad bike to the forum. Of course, they became objects for student photo sessions. Design engineer of Russian Mechanics JSC Yaroslav Pukazov is a 2020 graduate of IMMiT.

Together with my roommate in the hostel, we returned to Rybinsk to develop our hometown. Our company cooperates with the Engineering Center “Computer Engineering Center” (CompMechLab®) SPbPU. At the forum, we are looking for people with sparkling eyes who would come to us to create equipment,” Yaroslav said.

Furniture manufacturer Enterprise Galvanik is also participating in the forum for the first time. The company needs engineers, designers, and technologists, which is why they need Polytechnic students and graduates so much. HR department specialist Ksenia Mikhailova is also a polytechnician; she graduated from the Institute of Military-Technical Education and Security in 2011. She had not been to her home university for a long time and was very happy about the company’s participation in the career forum.

Activities took place in different formats: from business conversations to master classes, they were dedicated to career, education, and public service. Employees of the Petersburg Tractor Plant held a conversation on the topic “From mechanical engineering to IT: who solves production problems.” Arman Engineering specialists told us how to effectively “package” your benefits for an employer and how to develop emotional intelligence in a rapidly changing world. Sibur experts gave advice on how to build a career in a scientific department. Representatives of VK Education gave lectures “The path from a VK OC student at the Polytechnic University to an Android developer at Odnoklassniki.”

An online marathon was held in the VK group of the SPbPU Career Development Department, in which employees of employing companies gave advice on how to get internships and find a job.
