Within the framework of cooperation between LSR Group, the largest construction holding in the North-West, and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the university’s engineers and designers developed a unique concept of a technological cluster for the school.

This is a unique project not only for St. Petersburg, but also for Russia. For the first time, university staff and representatives of the construction company worked together on the planning and architectural solutions of the future educational institution. Together they developed a concept of education for the school’s engineering profile. Polytechnic became the first Russian university to take part in this kind of projects at the preparation stage. Thanks to the cooperation, classrooms have been designed where children will develop creative thinking, familiarize themselves with professions, learn about advanced developments in modern engineering, and prepare for university admission.

The cluster includes zones where schoolchildren will be able to study modern areas of technology: additive manufacturing, robotics, materials processing, microsystems technology, and drone modeling. Students will create projects and bring them to life.

For us, participation in such a project is an interesting experience. “LSR Group requested Polytechnic to prepare the engineering classroom concept at the design documentation development stage. This allowed the teachers of the Engineering and Construction Institute to timely formulate the technical specifications, including the requirements to volume-planning and structural solutions, engineering support, the list of equipment required in the engineering classroom, and so on. We hope that the availability of such a class will help develop interest among schoolchildren in engineering professions that are in demand today,” said Marina Petrochenko, Acting Director of SPbPU Engineering and Civil Engineering Institute.

In the future, the technology cluster will become a center of attraction for talented children of the district. Additional educational programs and activities for the development of creative and technical abilities of children will be implemented in the new space. Immediately after the launch, Polytechnic University will take an active part in the development and implementation of additional joint programs of the cluster.

Participation of schoolchildren in engineering projects organized by Polytechnic together with major industry partners will help to form professional orientation and identify potential abilities of students. And by working on real construction projects in collaboration with the market leader, students will develop their engineering skills and gain practical experience that will be useful in building a successful career trajectory,” commented Dmitry Tikhonov, Vice-Rector for Additional and Pre-University Education at SPbPU.
