On April 7, the series of lectures “Music at the Top of Culture” will begin in the “Worker and Kolkhoznitsa” pavilion at VDNKh. The talk will focus on the most notable musical phenomena of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, when music became a significant part of the historical and cultural process.

Listeners will learn about the most famous works created during the period of the highest flourishing of musical culture in Western Europe and Russia. The lectures will be delivered by Daniil Topilin, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Russian Music at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and the Department of Music History at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, musicologist, teacher, lecturer, member of the Moscow Musical Society, Ph. Participation in all events is free of charge, but you must register in advance.

First lecture “Pyotr Tchaikovsky: The Queen of Spades.” will take place on April 7 at 16:00. It will be dedicated to one of the Russian composer’s most famous works. He significantly reworked Pushkin’s plot. In particular, the theme of love in his work was developed, became convincing and truthful. Listeners will learn the history of the opera’s creation, discover the nuances of its dramaturgy and try to see the hidden meanings that go far beyond the genre.

The cycle “Music at the Top of Culture” will continue throughout the year. It will include such lectures as “Beethoven: Life Drama and Absolute Being”, “Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. Russian classical music: the beginning”, “Gustav Mahler: sounds of the big city”, “Anton Bruckner: neo-baroque and Wagnerianism”, “Richard Strauss: operas “Salome”, “Elektra””, “Maurice Ravel: “Waltz, Bolero”, “Alexander Glazunov: The Spirit of Old Russia”, “Alexander Scriabin: Prometheus and Prometheism”, “Nikolai Metner: Keeper of Romanticism”, “Sergei Rachmaninoff: Symphonic Dances”.
