With the support of RN-Uvatneftegaz (part of the oil production complex of Rosneft Oil Company), indigenous residents of the Tyumen region celebrated the national holiday of the arrival of spring – “Raven Day”.

“Raven Day” occupies a significant place in the national culture of the northern peoples; more than 250 guests came to the celebration in the Uvat region, including from Ugra, Yamal and other regions of Russia.

The holiday began with the performance of traditional rituals of welcoming spring. Guests also saw a colorful concert program, which included vocal and dance numbers, and playing the national musical instrument – the jew’s harp. Competitions in national sports were held for adults, and for children there was a thematic game program and a quiz dedicated to the history of the holiday. At the “Northern Patterns” exhibition it was possible to purchase arts and crafts items – amulets, dolls, jewelry.

At the festival, the Tyumen regional public organization of indigenous peoples “Kedr” presented RN-Uvatneftegaz with a letter of gratitude “For its great contribution to the development of the social movement of indigenous peoples of the North of the Tyumen region and active work in promoting the culture, customs and traditions of indigenous peoples.”

The culmination of the “Crow Day” was a tasting of national cuisine – northern fish soup, tea with taiga herbs, berries and nuts.

The center of the celebration was the ethno-cultural center “Uvas Mir Khot” (“House of Northern People”), which was created and is being developed with the participation of RN-Uvatneftegaz. On the territory of the center, national ritual holidays, cultural events, concerts, interactive excursions, local history and native language lessons, and master classes are held year-round. To immerse guests in the culture and life of the indigenous peoples of the North, a Khanty hut, a Nenets tent, a kitchen with a clay oven, a food storage shed, a hunter’s hut, an archery range and enclosures for animals were built here. Among the exhibits of the ethno-center are the transport of the inhabitants of the North – rowing boats (oblas), reindeer sledges, fur-lined skis and other items of the traditional way of life.

Every year, the attendance of the “House of Northern People” is growing – in 2023, more than 4 thousand residents of the Tyumen region and tourists from other regions of Russia became its guests. Popular television programs about domestic tourism were filmed here.

Preservation of the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life is one of the significant areas of Rosneft’s social policy. The Company’s enterprises implement many social projects in the regions of their operation, develop the infrastructure of northern villages, help the families of reindeer herders, improve the material and technical base of educational institutions, social and medical facilities in the areas of indigenous indigenous peoples’ residence.

RN-Uvatneftegaz, together with the administration of the Uvat municipal district, supports representatives of the Khanty, Mansi and Evenks of the Tyumen region, providing comprehensive assistance in preserving their original culture and way of life. Oil workers also provide access to winter roads and ice crossings, which are built for production needs, and provide fuel at the fields closest to the camps. Also, in recent years, the company has donated more than 140 pieces of equipment to Khanty families – snowmobiles, boat engines, and gas generators. RN-Uvatneftegaz annually finances the education of young people in colleges and universities, participation in competitions in the national sport – oblas (boat) racing.

At the RN-Uvatneftegaz field, seven years ago, for the first time, a unique fair of goods of the indigenous inhabitants of the Uvat region was organized, where they sold products of traditional crafts. For the second year in a row, this event is held in the regional center of Uvat in the expanded format of the Festival of Indigenous Peoples of the North of the Tyumen Region.

RN-Uvatneftegaz, a subsidiary of Rosneft, is engaged in the exploration and development of a group of fields located in the Uvat district of the Tyumen region. The Uvat project includes 19 license areas with a total area of more than 25 thousand km2.
