On April 8, a dramatic production with the unusual name “228” was shown in the White Hall of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The title of the play refers to the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs.” Polytechnic University became one of the universities that hosted events as part of the month of anti-drug activities and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle in St. Petersburg.

Polytechnic students were told the stories of children with crippled destinies, who broke the law and paid harshly for it. A girl who unknowingly became a drug courier and received a long prison sentence. A young man who tried substances in a difficult life situation. A mother who has suffered for her children. Their tragic stories were interspersed with religious parables.

The cast includes actors from the autonomous non-profit organization of socio-cultural programs “Open the World”. The initiator of the performances is the city committee for youth policy and interaction with public organizations.

The play is based on real stories of people who underwent rehabilitation in a special center. This is a warning that any encounter with drugs leads to an abyss. We simply tell the truth about what is happening in our society and, through emotional influence, we want to encourage children to the instinct of self-preservation,” said Olga Tsvetkova, director of the Open World non-profit organization.

The organizers of the show are convinced that in addition to tough measures to combat drugs and their distributors, preventive work is no less important. In this case, the means of theatrical and entertainment art best influence feelings and emotions and convince better than words.
