Rector Andrey Rudskoy and other leaders of the Polytechnic University congratulated the teachers and students of the SPbPU Military Training Center on the Day of the Air Defense Forces.

The professional holiday of air defense military personnel was established in 1975 and has been celebrated since then every second Sunday in April. On the eve of the holiday, which this year fell on April 14, a ceremonial formation took place in the courtyard of the Polytechnic Military Training Center.

“Air defense units continuously monitor the airspace of our Motherland,” the head of the Military Training Center, Colonel Viktor Ozarchuk, opened the event. — More than five thousand military personnel are on constant combat duty to protect St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, and almost the same number of weapons, military and special equipment are involved. The role of air defense is also important in a special military operation.”

Today in Russia, specialists in the field of air defense are trained by several educational institutions: Military Academy named after. Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K. Zhukov, Military Academy of Military Air Defense of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation named after Marshal of the Soviet Union A.M. Vasilevsky, Yaroslavl Higher Military School of Air Defense, Syzran Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots, Training Center of Anti-Aircraft Missile Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the city of Gatchina, Leningrad region, etc.

Since 1961, the Polytechnic began training reserve officers in areas related to the maintenance and operation of S-75, and then S-125, S-300, and from September 1, 2019, S-400 TRIUMPH anti-aircraft missile systems. During this time, more than 30,000 people received military specialties for air defense. From February 2025, it is planned to begin training students in the new military specialty “operator of unmanned aerial vehicles in the interests of the Aerospace Forces.”

“Our Military Training Center trains competent and worthy reserve officers who are ready to defend our country,” Polytech Rector Andrei Rudskoy addressed the officers and students of the VUTs. “Life and events in the country tell us that the security of Russia’s air borders is a complex and urgent task, and that is why the Day of the Air Defense Forces is such a significant event. I congratulate you on the holiday and wish us all a peaceful sky!”

After the event, the management, teachers and students of the Polytechnic took pictures against the backdrop of weapons and military vehicles: the S-300 air defense missile launcher removed from combat duty, command and staff vehicle and UAZ vehicle. Now the equipment is covered with camouflage nets.
