In particular, today we got acquainted with the Center for the Development of Artificial Intelligence, the right to create which the university won this year, its first results and the plans of our colleagues.”

The decision to create several world-class research centers in the field of artificial intelligence was made at the end of December last year, one of them was formed on the basis of NSU. The center’s specialization is “Construction and the urban environment” (development of “smart city” technologies).

“NSU has unique competencies in the field of artificial intelligence, which allows us to solve a wide range of both research and applied problems. We chose the topic “Construction and the urban environment”, since the implementation of AI technologies in this area is of great socio-economic importance and directly affects the quality of life of people. At the AI Center, we work closely with our industrial partners from areas such as telecommunications, construction, healthcare, and finance. We have already formed a work plan for the next three years, identified key projects that we will implement,” commented Mikhail Fedoruk, rector of NSU.

“Projects include the creation of digital twins for the management of construction projects, smart systems for monitoring urban infrastructure and the environmental situation, and the development of tools for high-precision management of energy networks and public transport of a modern city,” said the acting director. director of the center, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Alexander Lyulko.

Particular attention is paid to projects related to optimizing the city’s healthcare infrastructure and improving the quality of life of citizens. Among such projects is technology that allows testing large groups of people as quickly as possible and identifying cases of the disease at the earliest stages with minimal financial costs.

To solve these problems in the Novosibirsk branch of the National Medical Research Center MNTK Eye Microsurgery named after Academician S.N. Fedorov” an interactive computer program “Method of remote screening study of visual impairment in schoolchildren” was developed and patented. With the support of the regional governor Andrei Travnikov, with its help a comprehensive examination of schoolchildren in the region is being carried out.

A new stage of program development, carried out with the participation of NSU specialists, is associated with the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies to control critical parameters of testing and data processing. This cooperation made it possible to develop a software and hardware complex for remote vision screening examination “Oculist Igor”. Working with it does not require special knowledge and is easily accessible to a teacher or other school employee responsible for testing in their educational institution.

The developers plan to supply the complex for the implementation of a pilot project for remote vision screening examinations in schools in the Zaporozhye region.

In the near future, the first results of the Research Center’s work will become available to a wider audience. The main demonstration site for new technologies developed by the Center for Artificial Intelligence will be the new NSU campus, which is being built as part of the national project “Science and Universities.” There will be intelligent systems for monitoring air, noise and vibration, a monitoring system for engineering infrastructure and buildings, an information platform for managing the educational process, a safety system for the urban environment, including emergency prevention, an information platform for managing administrative and economic activities, and much more.

During the visit, Maxim Reshetnikov also gave an open lecture “Artificial Intelligence: Prospects for Russia’s Development” to university students. And the main thing is to gradually transform the labor market and move to an economy of high wages.

“In other words: it will be possible to produce more at lower costs. There will be a “transfer” of employees to more complex tasks. And Russia is moving in line with global trends in the development of artificial intelligence. We have our own market for solutions, strong personnel, a rapidly developing scientific school and a high level of basic physics and mathematics education,” the minister emphasized, adding that the main development objectives are formulated in the National Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence.
