The acceptance of applications for the “Student Startup” competition has ended. The winners will be announced in July and will receive grants of 1 million rubles. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The competition is held within the framework of the federal project “University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform” and is part of one of the initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology.

“The development of youth entrepreneurship contributes to the achievement of technological sovereignty of Russia, the importance of which our President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly spoken about. This year, funding for the “Student Startup” competition has been increased. The Government allocated 2 billion rubles for grant support: 1 million for each of the 2 thousand winners. We see an increase in student interest in this competition – they submitted over 7.7 thousand applications, which is 1.5 thousand more than in 2023. In total, in 2024, applications for the competition were received from 79 regions of Russia,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also noted that almost 5 thousand projects correspond to priority areas of scientific and technological development. This is 62.4% of the total number of applications.

The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science together with the Innovation Promotion Fund. Its participants could be students of Russian universities studying in bachelor’s, specialist’s, master’s or postgraduate programs.

“Over the three years of implementation of the “University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform,” the number of participants has grown by more than 2.5 times. Currently, the federal project involves 482 thousand students from 355 universities in all federal districts of the country, which have developed over 23 thousand startups. We see an increase in interest both in the project itself and in the grant competition for creating your own startup in particular. It is very important that the guys strive to develop new industries, which today are of important and sometimes strategic importance for the country,” said Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.

He recalled that the selection of projects for grant support took place in seven thematic areas: digital technologies, medicine and health-saving technologies, chemical technologies and new materials, new devices and smart manufacturing technologies, biotechnologies, resource-saving energy and creative industries.

“For the third year now, the “Student Startup” competition has been one of the most popular support tools in the line of programs of the Innovation Promotion Fund. The applicants were most interested in the areas of digital technology, biotechnology and instrument engineering, as well as creative industries. Ahead lies a thorough selection procedure and protection of projects. We are confident that many of the ideas sent to the fund will be successfully transformed into profitable businesses in the future,” said Sergei Polyakov, General Director of the Innovation Promotion Fund.

In the future, the competition works will be evaluated by the jury and presented for defense. Based on the results, the winners will receive development grants.
