State University Rector Vladimir Stroev took part in a press conference on the topic: “Admission campaign in Russian universities 2024: what will change this year?”, held at the press center of the information agency “National News Service”.

The event was also attended by Svetlana Bryukhovetskaya, Vice-Rector for Marketing and Applicant Relations of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and the Rector of Moscow State University got in touch remotely. Ogareva Dmitry Glushko.

Those gathered discussed the main issues of the upcoming admissions campaign, which will begin on June 20: what specialties will there be budget places for, what are the priorities for enrollment in universities in 2024, how much have tuition prices changed, what are the rules for accepting documents this year, what benefits and support measures available to applicants and teachers.

Detailed answers from Vladimir Vitalievich in our material.

Budget places

“This year the State University of Education has been allocated about 300 budget places, this is 30% of the planned enrollment.

We present all the classic areas for admission, in particular “Economics” and “Management”, in which such programs as “Ecology and Environmental Management”, “Applied Informatics” are strengthened with budget places, since they are most in demand today. The entire social and humanitarian cycle of programs is also available.

We have already proven technologies for working within the admissions campaign. So, last year the call center performed well, and today we will continue to implement this format of work; the client-oriented admissions committee that worked with applicants showed good results. Therefore, I am confident that this year everything will go well.”

How much have tuition prices changed?

Vladimir Stroev noted that this year the State University of Education has decided to increase tuition prices by no more than 4%.

“Each university makes its own decision on raising prices. This year we decided to increase the inflation rate at the lower level: on average, for bachelor’s programs it is by 4%, for master’s programs – by 2%. Although there was an opportunity to do it higher, somewhere up to 20%. We concluded that times are difficult now, in this way we can also support applicants, not raise prices and give the opportunity to enroll those who want to enroll this year,” said Vladimir Vitalievich.

English-language programs: to be or not to be

“English-language programs are less relevant nowadays. Due to the geopolitical situation, there should now be a reorientation to other languages, not just English. In our country, too, they remain and operate, but the question remains of who to teach them now and why. In my opinion, they are not very relevant today.”

“SUM additionally operates a system of named scholarships for outstanding graduates. As a rule, these are heads of large companies. They announce a scholarship in their name, hold a competition to select scholarship recipients, and pay them a stipend.

Let me emphasize that this is a scholarship that a person assigns at the call of his heart, selecting the best, as a rule, in the field in which he graduated.

A very effective system that has been operating for several years.”

Receipt dynamics

“The main redistribution that has occurred over the past few years is the increasing use of online technologies for admission by applicants. Fewer and fewer people come to the admissions office physically, but we are ready to meet everyone and answer all questions.”

Advice for applicants: choose a university, not just a program

“Dear applicants, it is very important to understand that you are not just enrolling in this or that program, but also choosing a university that will become your home for 4-6 years, or even more if you stay working.

Therefore, in addition to the program and fashion trend, study the educational institution itself, which you are going to enroll in, as well as its graduates. After all, how famous and successful they are says a lot. It is through them that the quality of education, the corporate culture of the university, and so on become clear.

If you have the opportunity to come and visit the university in person, then it is better to do so.

Many will agree that university years are the best time in life. And it is important to study not only in the desired program, but also in the educational institution in which you want to spend these years.

You are entering a new life after school and it is important to carefully choose a university for further education, after successfully graduating from which you will be able to find a job at a fairly high level.

Student life is a time of growth, development, meetings, love, family, which is why it is so important to decide on a place that will become your home.

Therefore, I would advise you to take the choice of the educational institution seriously.”
