At the Mashuk knowledge center in Pyatigorsk, an educational intensive was held from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for mentors of student scientific societies (SSC). It brought together SSS mentors and curators from universities across Russia – from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka. The Polytechnic was represented by the chairman of the SSS IPMEiT, assistant of the Higher School of Engineering and Economics Victoria Brazovskaya.

The educational intensive included a series of lectures, as well as practical modules and work in teams. Over the course of several days, curators and mentors shared their experience and effective practices of SSS that are used in their universities. There was a dialogue between the ministry, the coordination council for youth affairs and universities, in which each side tried to share problems and find ways to solve them.

It was interesting to get into a community of like-minded people who do the same thing as me and also face the same problems. Thanks to my colleagues who happily shared their experiences and tried to help. The most useful thing was the discussion of the “pains” and mistakes that happened along the way of the formation and development of SSS. The most difficult thing lies ahead – applying the acquired knowledge in practice,” shared Victoria Brazovskaya.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced 2022-2031. Decade of Science and Technology. This period includes a set of initiatives, projects and activities. All of them are aimed at strengthening the role of science and technology in solving the most important problems of the development of society and the country.

Student scientific societies play a big role in attracting young people to science, as well as in forming a community of beginning researchers,” said Ali Asadov, head of the department for supporting the Decade of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Supporting student scientific societies and associations helps to popularize science among students and dispel the myths that shroud this activity.
