A seminar for foreign students on the topic “Terrorism is a threat to society” was held at the Polytechnic University. The event brought together leading experts who gave warnings about the importance of vigilance and awareness in the modern world.

The participants were greeted by Maxim Pasholikov, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Communication Technologies of SPbPU: The world around us is huge and complex, and every day it becomes even more confusing. There are many different shades in it. Sometimes we need to see the difference between black and white to understand complex situations. To do this, we need to understand what is bad or good. To understand this, you need to know where threats can come from, how they are classified and how to respond to them.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and the Implementation of Migration Policy in St. Petersburg, Andrei Drushlyakov, showed foreign students a special film designed to warn and explain where the danger comes from.

Deputy Chairman of the Department for Relations between Church and Society of the St. Petersburg Diocese, Archpriest Vadim Burenin, emphasized the danger of false teachings and manipulation, warning students against falling under the influence of extremist groups.

Associate Professor of the Department of History of Religions and Theology of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen Alexey Gaidukov drew attention to how historical events and processes can influence the formation of negative stereotypes and biases between peoples and nations.

Representative of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Evgeny Fedulov, and the prosecutor of the department for oversight of the implementation of laws on federal security, interethnic relations, countering extremism and terrorism, Alexey Dedushkin, discussed the threats associated with the use of the Internet for the spread of radical ideas and recruiting new members.

The representative of the Coordination Center for the formation of active citizenship among young people, the prevention of interethnic and interfaith conflicts, countering the ideology of terrorism and the prevention of extremism Ivan Kolomeytsev and the director of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Center, Ambassador of Russian Education Al-Jundi Waddah reminded the children that in any difficult situation they can and should contact the university administration or teachers. All Polytech employees are always ready to provide help, give advice and tell you what is possible and what is not.

The seminar was an important step in ensuring the safety of students and developing their critical thinking. Participants of the event received valuable knowledge and recommendations on preventing the threats of terrorism in everyday life.
